Start with What Really Matters
The Feelings of Dread & Discomfort Creeping In

If you’ve ever thought…
“I don’t know what I want anymore.”
“I feel stuck, but I can’t explain why.”
“I should be happy! I have everything I want!”… but something feels off.
…you’re not broken or ungrateful. You’re likely just disconnected from your core Life Values. Or you’ve outgrown your current set of values – that have served you well, until now.
The good news?
You can reset and rediscover your values, and define new meanings that inspire and ‘shift the needle’ for you.
And when you do, your decisions, direction, and energy all begin to gel, and make sense again.
So What Are Core Values, Really?
Your core values support your deeply held principles that shape your identity and choices.
They’re not just “nice words” to make you feel good. They’re the emotional and psychological anchors behind:
- What motivates you
- What fulfills you
- What energises or frustrates you
- And what you want your life to stand for
Values aren’t goals you tick off either. They’re the ‘lasting and ongoing’ elements that power your inner compass, helping you navigate how you live, love, and lead.
Why You Might Feel Lost
When your life isn’t aligned with your values, you feel it.
You might:
- Say yes when you mean no
- Stay stuck in roles or relationships that no longer fit
- Chase goals that don’t feel meaningful
- Feel disconnected, burnt out, or unclear
This is what I call a ‘values drift’, and it’s common during transitions like career changes, burnout, and relationship break downs.
In other ways, you can sense it by those – “I’m unfulfilled, not satisfied, and not happy” moments.
Try This Simple Exercise to Uncover Your Values
(Inspired by Exercise 1 & 2 from the Life Values Method™ Guidebook)
Let’s do a quick reflective exercise right now:

Step 1: Recall a Peak Moment
Think of a time in your life when you felt truly proud, alive, or at peace with yourself.
- Where were you?
- What were you doing?
- What made it so meaningful?
Now ask: What values were present in that moment?
Examples:
- If you felt free and adventurous → you may value independence, spontaneity, or growth
- If you felt deeply connected with someone → maybe you value intimacy, honesty, or belonging
- If you overcame something tough → perhaps courage, resilience, or self-respect were at play
Jot down the value words that come to mind.
Step 2: Flip the Script — Look at Frustration
Now think of a time you felt frustrated, hurt, or out of place.
- What was missing?
Values often reveal themselves just as clearly through conflict or regret.
Examples:
- If you felt dismissed → you might value respect or being heard
- If you felt bored → maybe you value challenge or creativity
- If you felt burned out → you might be neglecting peace, freedom, or wellbeing
Write down 2–3 values that you were craving in that moment.
Step 3: Spot the Patterns
Look at your list.
- What values keep showing up?
- Which ones feel non-negotiable. The ones that, if ignored, always lead to misalignment?
Circle 5–7 values that feel the most true to who you are (not who others expect you to be).
Congratulations. You’ve just met your core values.
So... Now What?
You’re not lost.
You’re just not aligned — yet.
Your values are already inside you. You just need the right questions to bring them to light.
