Client Clarity & Breakthroughs with Power Combos
When clients feel stuck, unmotivated, or getting off track, it’s rarely because they don’t care, or are lazy.
More often, it’s because their values are unclear, in conflict, incomplete, or just too broad for taking action and achieving a goal.
This Life Values Worksheet (exercise 26 of the Life Vales Method™) introduces a simple but powerful tool for practitioners to use with clients.
Its the Life Values Power Combos Exercise. It’s a simple idea with a powerful punch.
By pairing values, and creating special combos, you can quickly find pathways and mindsets to restore clarity, unlock motivation, and get forward movement for your clients.
Use this exercise in session, or get your clients to find helpful combos on their own between sessions.
When to Use This Life Values Worksheet
This worksheet is especially useful when clients:
- Feel stuck despite insight and awareness
- Struggle with motivation or follow-through
- Are caught between competing priorities or identities
- Know what they don’t want, but can’t articulate what does matter
- Are over-functioning, avoiding, people-pleasing, or burning out
If you feel like your clients are circling or struggling with the same material, values work can help create direction without derailing the work you’re already doing.
Why Power Combos can get the shift
Top 10 values lists are great, but they can fall short if that’s the end of your Values work.
If you’re clients are saying thing like:
- “I know my values… but nothing’s changing.”
- “I still feel conflicted.”
- “I understand it, but I just can’t act on it.”
That’s a helpful insight.
And it’s where additional depth, like using Power Combos can be of help.
Introducing Life Values Power Combos
A Power Combo is a small pairing (or cluster) of values that, when combined, support a specific kind of movement or change.
Helpful for answering:
- “What do you need right now”
- “What support will help”
- “What will provide momentum”
- “What’s another angle that will help”
- “What will help you return to the centre of health (balance) on the Life Values Alignment Grid?”
How Power Combos Support Clarity & Motivation
Different Power Combos can support different kinds of change, for example:
- Overcoming stuckness – pairing grounding values with movement values
- Stepping up – combining courage with responsibility or commitment
- Stepping down – balancing intensity with rest, compassion, or calm
- Pivoting – blending clarity with adaptability or curiosity
- Breakthrough moments – pairing vision with action-based values
The key is not finding the “perfect” value, but finding the right combination for the moment the client is in.
How to Use This Worksheet in a Session
This Life Values Worksheet is simple, and flexible. It’s just one of 40 exercises in the Life Values Method™ that you can use with your clients.
In brief, the process looks like this:
- Invite the client to select a small number of values that feel relevant right now.
- Find and pair values together intentionally (there’s no need to rank or sort them)
- Explore how those values might work together in shaping behaviour, decisions, or boundaries
- You don’t need to force insight. Often, clarity emerges naturally through comparison and contrast.
Top tip: You can use the Virtual Life Values Deck to browse and view all the values, and pick and choose as you please. Or take a shortcut and use the pre-made list of Power Combos to fast track a selection that has meaningful impact.

How Power Combos Help Clients - And Practitioners
Without going into a full interpretation… Power Combos can be used in a number of ways, including:
- help reveal hidden insights lurking beneath the surface – that your client struggles to name or identify
- help reveal patterns driving behaviour or mindsets
They can help make sense of common ‘conundrums’ you might face as a practitioner:
- Client clarity but low responsibility – has insight but avoids action.
- Over-responsible – ‘has no time’ – dealing with burnout and stress.
- Reactive, unbalanced, instability, uncertainty
- Poor boundaries and people pleasing,
Power Combos can help clients get unstuck, without shame or blame. And highlight the things that are going to help them, right now.
They are a helpful tool to get clients back on track – and continuing to do the work with you.
For example
- Getting your client back into a fitness routine (as a fitness instructor)
- Helping your client believe in themselves to go for that new job (career coach / counsellor)
- Helping your client nurture themselves down from burnout and over-work. (health and wellness therapist or practitioner)
