Let's Get You Started
What this is:
This is a simple, guided way to sort your personal values using an interactive card deck.
Instead of scrolling through a long list, you can:
- browse values visually
- click to select what stands out
- sort and refine your list
- build your Top 10 values
- or using predefined values sets and pre-made power combo’s.
Why Do a Values Card Sort
Discover What Matters:
Most people have a vague sense of what matters to them…
But when it comes to decisions, direction, or when life feels off track? That unclear feeling shows up as:
- second guessing yourself
- Uncertainty or conflicting priorities
- low confidence or lack of direction
- rising frustration or drift
A values card sort helps you discover what matters most, helping you find clarity, and making decisions with confidence.
You’re not just picking nice words, to feel good…
You’re identifying:
- what you need more of
- what you’re moving toward
- what feels out of alignment
- what matters most right now
How to Use the Virtual Deck
Step 1 - Start browsing
Click into the deck and begin exploring.
Notice which values:
- stand out immediately
- feel important or familiar
- create a reaction (positive or negative)
- Don’t overthink it yet.
Step 2 - Select what resonates
Click to select values that feel relevant.
You can:
- select multiple cards
- build a working list
- Hide other values cards when your done
Aim for a rough pool of 15–30 values to begin with.
Step 3 - Refine and sort
Now begin narrowing things down.
Ask yourself:
- Which of these really matter?
- Which would be hardest to let go of?
- Which feel authentic vs what someone else wants?
Work toward your Top 10 values list.
Step 4 - Use Sets and Power Combos
If you want a shortcut, use:
- predefined sets
- “power combos”
These help you:
- group values quickly
- explore themes (growth, connection, direction, etc.)
- test combinations that fit your situation
Step 5 - Sit with your Top 10
Once you have your Top 10, pause.
This is where the real value is.
Ask:
- Do these feel like me?
- Where am I living these well?
- Where are they missing?
- Which ones feel in conflict?
What to Consider While You Are Sorting
As you go through the deck, it helps to reflect across different areas, so you can create one authentic top 10, or create multiple selections for different areas of life or current challenges.
For example, you can consider:
Your current life
- What do you need more of right now?
- What feels off or missing?
- Your future direction
For the future
- What are you moving toward?
- What would a better version of life look like?
- What do you need clarity around?
Your relationships
- What matters in how you connect with others?
- Who do you want to spend more time with and why?
- What do you want to give and receive more of?
Your work or purpose
- What makes work feel meaningful?
- What drains you?
- What lights you up inside?
For deeper meaning and exploration
- What are you yearning for?
- What frustrates you?
- When do you feel most like yourself?
These are often clues to your deeper values – unlocking personal insights, meaning and paving the way for big shifts.
Top Tips as You Get Started
- Notice where values pull in different directions – that tension is a useful signal.
